It's a long season, Daniel san. We need Porcello to be fresh in October....when we're playing in the World Series.

Catfish hunter was ALWAYS fresh in October! And Porcello wont pitch in playoffs except for long relief anyway.

19 of the last 20 games were quality starts by us (6 or more innings with 3 or fewer runs). That is a great stretch of pitching from our BIG 5.

Porcello's trade value has to be soaring right now as he's been one of our best pitchers in the last month. I his last 4 outings, he's given up a total of 4 runs and carried an ERA of 1.33. He's only giving up a fraction more than 4 hits per appearance.

Since we're not going to use him as a starter in the playoffs, maybe it makes sense to trade him for a closer and a position player (SS if Peralta gets suspended?).

On the other hand, if we keep him, we have actual starting pitcher insurance in case one guy goes down for a while. We would also have him in the bullpen in the post season and potentially have a good pitcher for many years to come (he's only 24).

    Upper class problems.

On offense, here would be the best possible hitting lineup that Leyland could play based on position and batting average:
    1) Jackson (CF): .272
    2) Hunter (RF): .296
    3) Cabrera (3B): .358
    4) Fielder (1B): .286
    5) Peralta (SS): .329
    6) Tuiasosopo (LF): .349
    7) Garcia (DH): .288
    8) Pena (C): .299
    9) Infante (2B): .303

That lineup has a combined .309 average and we're midway through June. It's so good that you'd have to stick the DH in the 7 spot or later.

The highest team average in MLB history was .316 by the 1921 Tigers for comparison... and their SLG was way lower.

Because Porcello has a tendency to suck once he gets close to 100 pitches?
Or maybe he's still on a tight pitch count, I don't believe they ever took him off it.

Like my mama used to tell me back in the sixties...they should have saved some of those 10 runs for the next game when they got shut out.

I was shocked when he had the ballz nerve to send Valverde back in there.....he was even worst the last two years in non save opportunities.

Those A's teams were awesome. Catfish went 25-12 in 1974. The dude started 41 games. That is more than 25% of the team's games. That is nuts! In 1975, he had 30 complete games. That is even more nuts!

Does Anibal need to take more time off? Got pulled from the game and bullpen is still a mess. Not going to comment about the road offense again.

I like this lineup, but Garcia got sent down to make room for Jackson when he came off the DL. Gotta find someone else to send down to bring Garcia back. Leyland loves Kelly so it won't be him.
