trade Fister , Rondon and Dirks to Miami for Giancarlo Stanton. Trade Castellanos or Garcia and Coke (blah) and Ortega for Romo. Problem solved!

Tigers play to the level of competition again. This team is so maddening by losing to ChiSox and then beating Texas, albeit injured.

Tomorrow is Scherzer's last start before the All-Star break....chance to get it to 14-0.

Stanton is a great hitter in a bad environment...Fister is another wananbe that we can replace with Smyly or Alverez. ITS NOW TIME!

You need 4 solid pitchers in the playoffs (JV, Max, Sanchez, Fister). The other three (Smyly, Alverez, Porcello) could all be moved with little negative impact. Coke getting moved would be a positive impact irregardless of what comes back.

Smyly is 3rd on the team in WS I believe. 1 inning of scoreless baseball every game really adds up, even though it doesn't seem like much.

I'm almost to the point I think Smyly deserves a shot at being the closer when Benoit shows he's not the answer.

If you think GStanton could blow up to something similar to Miggy...let's talk.

Really difficult to put two good halves together. I'm hoping for 23 wins total this season from him. He gets great run support.

Tigers are again leaving too many man on and Texas comes right back with a 3-spot. Scherzer will have tough time picking up the win here unless things turn around quickly.

Had an opportunity to closely watch Verlander today and listen to the comments of the TBS analysts (Ron Darling and John Smoltz, both former pitchers). They think Verlander is keeping something extra for the playoffs, which is why he is only topping out at 93-94 mph. But then they went on to say that they think he is trying to become more of a pitcher a la Greg Maddux rather than a thrower. This is all fine and good if his control is pinpoint and he changes speeds and batters' eye levels effectively. Today he did that and kept the Rangers off-balance all day. But it seems like he is walking a fine line here. He goes pretty deep in counts and goes 3-2 a lot on hitters. He is definitely a different pitcher. It's almost like a golfer going through swing changes.

He talked about figuring something out in his mechanics a few starts back though, like he was struggling instead of intentionally dialing back.
