I'm not thinking any. [are losed][Wood ref.]

The Tigers are already committed to two high-price deals with starting pitchers Anibal Sanchez, who will make $16.8 million per season through 2017, and Justin Verlander who will make $28 million per season through 2019.

I feel like we missed our window. Losing fister, peralta, iglesias, fielder, and rondon is tough. The odds of sanchez and fister slipping back a little is high. Smyly dominated the middle innings and he's in a different role now, leaving a void there.

Hopefully the newer, worse hitting, speedier, and better defensive model works.

Man, I firgot about benoit, and infante too. We got decimated. Lost last year's starting 1B, 2B, SS, our 4th starting pitcher, our set up man, our closer, and our new starting SS. Even dirks is out.

The New crop of players seems mediocre in many ways. Casty and porcello breaking through would help immensely.

TaS, Fister is gone so no one cares if he slips. You meant Porcello ?
The guys we lost weren't great and are cheaply replaceable. Excepting the SS.

The bullpen will be a question mark.

Closer: Nathan - has been an All-Star 6 times, including the last 2 seasons.
8th inning: Alburquerque - been up and down - big question mark here
7th inning: Chamberlain - not sure what we'll get out of this guy either
Marte - young guy with big arm

    Losing Rondon hurt.

Seems like I am forgetting someone...

I'm just pointing out that we lost way more than we got back. And what we had last year wasn't even good enough.

We have lost 4 out of our top 9 offensive players in terms of games played.
Fielder appeared in the most games and had an OPS of .819.
    Infante was .795
    Peralta was .815
    And Dirks was .686

We are supposedly taking step back offensively in order to get better defensively. However, with Iglesias out for essentially the entire season, that plan is fizzling. Castellanos is going to be at 3rd base and he might be shaky. We were going with the LF platoon, but now Dirks is going to be out.

    It's messy.

I rather let Max go. Sanchez has more of an arsenal of pitches and his stuff is just sick in the fall with the cold temperatures. Max is really a on trick pony with a fastball with a lot of movement. Once he loses that he is going to be in trouble.

Verlander has now pitched 20 innings of scoreless preseason baseball.

Pretty hard to argue with the money that Cabrera is getting. Best hitter in the game. I hope he can stay healthy.

The first DESERVED contract I've seen since Micheal jordan. Cabrera is getting paid for what he's does AND what he had done. Him alone is the Barry Bonds of this century. He makes Tigers legitamate contenders and he can be a full time DH at 35 and be David Ortiz for the last 5 years. He is NOW my all time favorite Tiger!! )passsing Mickey Stanley and Kirk Gibson)

This is your best post...ya know.
I would put Mickey Stanley and Kirk Gibson both in my top 5.
Also love Cabrera...a story for the ages.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't be investing for 10 years in a 31 year old. We already have him for 2 more seasons and that is about our illitch window for a title. After that, why not make him an offer for his market value then when we see if he declines at all?

He'll be 41 at the end of the biggest contact in history. And we couldn't afford to keep Fister?

Miggy is the best hitter in mlb now, but he's a slow, overweight 1st baseman/DH who dombrowski had to personally bail out of jail in 2011. This is how a team turns into a poor man's yankees. I could see if we were selling our soul for a chance at a title this year... but we're selling it for a potential continued run in 3 years with all injury risk on us.

Yeah, I'm glad the Tigers are playing hardball. Do I want them to be cheap, H no. But Miggy aint enough. We need 4-5 more clutch hitters.
I hate the money these guys make !
    Miggy's gone after 4 years.

I am sure they are assuming that Miggy will retire after another 5-6 years of playing. He will get bored after winning the World Series the next 2 years.

Don't count on it. The World Series rings, I mean. Tigers have found creative ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
