is 6 innings a start for Smyly every 5 or 6 days actually BETTER than two or 3 appearances a week in needed situations?

Last year Porcello bombed in that position. Would they have the patience for Smyly ?

    We're at 12-8 after 20 games. That's a 96 win season.
Not bad for a team with potential suckiness knocking at the door.

Smyly is a starter. He will be perfect where he is at. They still need to address the bullpen issues, but no sense screwing up one of the best starting rotations in baseball.

I'd like to agree but the bully IS already screwing up a great rotation.

Exhibit A: The fifth inning of Saturday's Tigers/Twins game. Ridiculous.

If Phil Choke can't deliver, he needs to be sent packing. With the short relief staff, they need to get Don Kelly up and throwing in the bull pen.

Twins up 4-2 on 1 hit at the end of 5....

I hate Phil Coke more than Lee hates Kyle Singler. Please just let this guy go...

MY prediction was that same .600 WINNING PCT. Thats 6-4 every 10 games. Right where they are at with 12-8.

That was awesome. Castellanos needs to put the ball in play on the at bat before that. Nice work by Holladay to pick him up.

As long as we get the W. He's usually matched up against the other teams' best pitchers.

Bullpen looked good, even though there was some action in the 8th. I'm liking the movement of their pitches.

Apparently, Holladay bunted on his own based on the infield playing back and his belief that he could lay down a successful bunt with a sinkerball pitcher on the mound. I would have chalked this up to the manager, but maybe it's just the freedom that the manager gives the players. For a backup to make the decision on his own in the 9th inning of tie game is pretty gutsy.

I don't like sacrifice bunts, but squeeze bunts seem like a better play to me... just with 1 out vs 2 (since the odds of actually getting to first base is low).

Holladay looking good again. Avila has been so inconsistent and so frequently dinged up that it would be great if we had a backup who could fill in more than occasionally. Avila supposedly does things that go unnoticed and his poor batting average is partially made up for by his high walk rate, but man does he go through some bad slumps.

We're on a 99 win pace so far, so I think that it qualifies as a strong start to the season. Winning close ballgames, which is a huge change from this point last season.

    Good to see Injuns struggling.
Avila was coming out it before the injury. But lets let Holaday fade before giving up on him.

Avila had one good game. He is terrible. He had one good year. We can't afford a guy batting .200 on a World Series team.
