Tigers> number one team in the LA Times power rankings today.
well that's a kiss of death. We'll drop five straight.
Tigers sweep to get to 17-9...maintaining my .600 win pct needed to win Central division, they can go 3-3 in the next 6 and still be at 20-12 (.600) Up next: 4 at home vs houston, 3 at home vs Minnesota Prediction: 5-2 Record: 22-11 Hitters warming up....against very very good KC staff!!!!! Guess who has more HR's than Cabrera??? AVILA! LOL Miggy will get his legs back by June. Go Tiggers!!!
We're already 8th here...with our 17-9 record posted. MLB Power Rankings - Top 30 MLB Baseball Teams - FOX Sports on MSN
That was last Monday's rankings....with 5 game win streak we should be no lower than 4th when tomorrow's rankings come out. Only the A's, Brewers and Giants could would be ranked ahead of us if possible. In fact maybe only the Giants.
Just saw this stat: vmart just called out on strikes for first time in 154 games! Sick eye.
Holy Scherzer! Max is pitching great. Maybe he was smart to hold out for more money.
Let's just hope we don't get outbid........
He's the man. Also, avila showing why he's valuable... walked twice and threw out 3.
If he can keep a .350 obp, I won't hate him anymore.
New ratings....as I said on post 405 only the A's Brewers, or Giants could possibly be ranked ahead of us.... well it's the Giants and Brewers per the latest... MLB Power Rankings - Top 30 MLB Baseball Teams - FOX Sports on MSN
2-0 train kept a-rollin'
Robbie Ray's debut today in place of Sanchez (blister). He's been lights out in the minors with an ERA around 1.60. The winning streak is in danger, but we have so few games off for the rest of the year that having another starter to fill in once a month or so would be beneficial. He's also our emergency backup for future DL occurrences from our big 5. He's a lefty with a "sneaky" fastball and an improving curve ball. His K rate has been good so far. His opponent is 0-5 with a 5.63 ERA, so not sure who has the advantage in this one.
interesting how they can find a starter but wring their hands trying to get a mid-relief.
If this Robbie Ray guy works out, maybe that's the answer. Smyly was excellent in middle relief last season.
RR comes through. 1 run allowed and it may not have happened if Kinsler didn't drop a pop up (not an error b/c he threw out the runner who was tagging, but the run from 3rd scored on the drop). Great debut. 9-1 in the last 10. 4 out of 5 games where all 9 starting batters got at least 1 hit! Team looks like a team.
I am happy they are doing it with both offense and starting pitching. The starters are sailing along and usually run out of gas between the sixth and seventh inning and occasionally give a up a run. The holder comes in and holds in the 8th inning and then the ninth inning guy gives his best impersonation of 2012 papa grande giving up a few hits and a couple of runs. Check out this link where we are number one in giving up the least number of runs in the 5th inning, second best in the 8th inning, but drop to 28th in the ninth inning. MLB Stats - MLB Team Opponent 9th Inning Runs per Game on TeamRankings.com We could lead the lead the league in ERA if the bull pen was stable as the starters. But I ain't mad at them as they are winning and pulling away from the rest of the central and the other AL teams to boot.
Mop up duty skew. We are undefeated when Leading after 7. Ausmus is saving the pen for when it counts. Clearly not stellar, but better than the averages would indicate.
VMart has more HRs than Ks this year!!! To put that in perspective, Jose Abreu is the HR leader with 12 HRs and 37 Ks.
One quick stat to show why we are so good this year (thus far): OPS against (on base percentage + slugging percentage): .558 Robbie Ray (1 appearance) .572 Sanchez .582 Scherzer .627 Chamberlain .667 Verlander .677 Porcello .684 Nathan .692 Smyly .721 LEAGUE AVERAGE .749 Albequerque .759 Reed 1.098 Coke In summary, 2 of our starters have been ridiculously better than league average. Verlander and Porcello have been significantly better than league average. And our 5th starter, Smyly, has been slightly better than league average. Our main 2 relievers are also better than average with Al Al and Reed close to average. Except for Coke, our pitching has been about as good as it gets. And Robbie Ray, in his debut, has inexplicably outperformed everybody, if just for a few hours. If he can prove that it wasn't a fluke, he might be a great addition to the bullpen, ala 2013 Smyly. We really need a lefty there.
