I am still thinking we need the long ball help for Miggy. A couple of long ones from someone else other than Cabrera could have given JL another championship before he stepped down.

After all it was the Bo Sox long ball that beat us in each of the four ALCS losses.

I am not a fan of the moves this off season. We have more holes and question marks than last year. We are going to depend on a rookie at 3rd base and Rondon as the set up man? How did depending on Rondon as the closer work last year? Our starting pitching is weakened with Fister leaving. The defense is better, but the bullpen is still bad. Teams are just going to wait out the Tigers and get into the bullpen to do damage in the 6th,7th, and 8th innings.

Cabrera's best years were with Fielder's protection. Martinez does not get the same respect. Having 5 or 6 guy's batting below .250 average at the bottom of the line up is going to hurt this team. All of the speed does nothing if the guy's can't get on base.

I disagree with everything you have said. The team has got new speed and athleticism on offense. Besides Rondon, the bullpen has AlAl and Joba. The Tigers had 6 decent starting pitchers on the roster last season so moving one was the right thing to do if you get something in return. Castellanos has been sold as the future of the Tigers. It's time to give him a shot immediately with a 6-month window to prepare for his starting job. It's very exciting to be a Tigers fan right now!!

    I agree, Bill.

Who's to say Peralta won't return from his career year to a .240 BA.
Martinez did a good job as Cabrera's back-up in 2011, and showed that he is a .300+ hitter and good RBI man last year.
We should be better in left, Jackson should at least be equal to last year (hopefully better), and Hunter should be O.K.
Avila has room to improve. :-)
Castellanos is a wild-card. If he lives up to anything close to his hype (better than Garcia) we'll have a much better
offense, and a less likely chance of all the DP's that Fielder and an injured Cabrera hit in to.
Kinsler will be a big help offensively and defensively with Iglesias.
The bullpen is better with Nathan and Rondon. Starters should be great.

Nathan has to be nuts all year or it's as bad as last year.

Are we sure that Rondon will be 100%? In other words do we have confidence in our med staff?

The worse case scenario is that he is the second coming Joel Zumaya a great Tiger prospect with a rocket similar to Rondon's that never panned out because of lingering shoulder, hand, wrist, and elbow injuries....we kept bringing him back mended only to see him suffer another arm injury over the course of 4 years.

I hope your right. It seems to me like the Tigers are rolling the dice gambling on a lot of unknowns. I am not buying all the hype on Castellanos. He had the highest number of errors in the minors out of all the 3rd basemen in the minors. To be honest Avsil Garcia looked like the better prospect to me that could help this team win now.

We basically traded A Garcia and Peralta for Davis, Castellanos and Iglesias (i like doing stuff like that- combining off season moves) so let's see how that turns out.
We traded one of five starters in Fister for a new starter in Smyly and got 3 lefty relievers including Nathan( considering Smyly was our only lefty last year).... so this is not bad.

HERE's THE ONE THAT MAY BITE US: Kinsler for Fielder!! I REALLY thought Prince had a lot to prove this year and it was his presence that got Cabrera two MVP's.

Also, there is NO BITE on the Tigers bench. Dirks and Davis will paltoon but thats about it. I hope the pitching will be better than last year which is very possible if Verlander and Porcello have better year.

The wild card is Brad and the new coaches -who I just LOVE!!!!!!

Remember , Tigers won the Central by only ONE GAME in 2013.

if Kinsler and Davis can get on the basepaths they could cause some mayhem

I agree. Pushing Jackson towards the bottom of the lineup will help, too.

It would be a real shame if Morris and Trammel don't make it into the Hall of Fame. I'm not very optimistic but you never know.
