WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched):
    Sanchez- 1.103
    Porcello- 1.133
    Scherzer- 1.171
    Verlander- 1.444 (yuck)

    ERA:
    Porcello- 3.24
    Scherzer- 3.27
    Sanchez- 3.57
    Verlander- 4.79 (yuck)

    WAR:
    Scherzer- 4.2
    Porcello- 3.7
Sanchez- 2.4 (injured for a little while)
    Verlander- 0.4 (yuck)

Hopefully Verlander has been injured and continues to strengthen until the post season. He was a bear last year in the playoffs after a rough season. Short of a steady recovery though, I think that he should be the one held out of the rotation. Porcello has clearly been the 1st or 2nd best pitcher... in a dead heat with Scherzer. Sanchez is also very close to these guys statistically. Verlander has been the outlier.

In the end if all of these guys are doing well..one or two of them will be used for bullpen duty and if it is JV...he will be a formidable presence to the team we face in the playoffs.

Well, OK. I'd be awfully surprised if Verlander did relief duty. I don't think he would be very effective. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I don't believe Porcello has been particularly good in that role. It's a different mindset.

1968 and 2014 are eons apart when it comes to salaries, egos and team leadership. Verlander and Kaline are cut from a different cloth. When Kaline got his $100K, he was pretty humble about it.

Porcello trying to tie for the lead in mlb wins tonight. Looking likely. Hitting explosion all the way down the lineup.

Cabrera and the martinez brothers all with dingers.

Actually all the pitchers are different from a year ago. But Porcello has shown much more consistency/smarter than years prior. He's evolving like Scherzer did last year.

Tigers score a run in every inning...first time in a 9-inning home game for Detroit since 1912. I bet Woody remembers that one well...

FUNNY stat of the day: Porcello is tied for the major league lead in wins with 13 (he should have 16) with guys named Scherzer, Kershaw and Wainwright and possibly MAY NOT start any playoff games!!! Trying to find out if that has EVER happened.....

We'd be shooting ourselves in the foot by doing that. We have redundancy now. What about a 5 man rotation? Ever happened?

would you rather face Scherzer or Price just once in two weeks? Remember playoff schedules are different from season schedules. Also, in 84 we had Morris, Petry and Wilcox ...I dont even remember WHO are number 4 was. LOL..You HAVE to get three games out of Morris!! We are blessed to have an insanity of riches and should just sit back and enjoy it.

BTW, my bullpen guy would be Sanchez. His array of stuff out of the bullpen would be lethal.

Dave Rozema was our 4th starter in 84...
I glad to see that we concur that Sanchez should be the bullpen ace....he's got good stuff for the short run.......

Haven't seen price for us yet obviously, but in terms of max over porcello or sanchez, I'm not sure that I have a preference. They all seem capable of delivering a gem and their stats are interchangeable.

    Sanchez looked awesome through 7: 2 hits, 0 BB & 12 K's

Jaba starting the 8th with Tigers up 4-0

I'd like to see Ausmus put Soria in to close. Guy needs to build some confidence

His HR numbers are down, which, frankly, I don't care about. I care much more about his RBIs and RISP BA.
