Actually, McCarthy isn't a beginner pitcher. He's overcome a lot. You should do a quick search on his story, Thee. Very interesting.

Romine is worse. Interestingly enough, they both went yard last night. Romine really benefited from that short right-field porch. Other than the Pesky Pole at Fenway, there isn't a cheaper HR in baseball.

I used to love when you could hit a fly ball to right field at Tiger Stadium and catch the overhang.

Amzing stat of reality...Other than Drew Smyly's start vs White Sox on July 31st, THE TIGERS STARTERS have gone at least 6 innings giving up 3 runs or less in 25 Straight Starts. The last pitcher other Smyly to give MORE than 3 runs thru 6 innings was Rick Porcello on Sunday night ESPN vs DAVID PRICE vs Rays!! How weird is that. Other than our 7th Inning Blues *see Sanchez the Tigers starters give us a chance to win EVERY night out!
What Price did last night was a bulldog Jack Morris-performance. Price has given up only 40 runs all year that were NOT a SOLO Home Run. He's given up 22 HOMERS all solo AND only 23 WALKS in 179 innings!!! Thats Crazy!!!!! His ERA other than Homers is 2.01 !!!! SIGN HIM NOW!!!!!!

and I guess the sun DOES shine on a dog's tooter every now and then!!!! And it does it TWICE in New York!!! hahahahhahaha Thanks Romine and Avila!!

This one falls into the category of "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while."

He's hitting .220. About two hits every 10 trips to the plate. He was .295 in 2011 and has gotten worse every season. What's worse is that he is one of the few lefties we have in the lineup.

He needs to play winter ball in a banana republic. He's regressing.

Whatever works for him. I will gladly be wrong if he could actually do that once in a while.

Drew Smyly vs A's....5.1 innings, 3 runs and 107 pitches!!!!! NOT having one definitive out pitch is why his pitch count is ridiculously high all the time. just dont get why he was suckered into thinking he'd be better as a starter. oH WELL..WE GOT PRICE NOW. HAAA-HA!:ner-ner:

Smyly just turned 25. I think he will figure it out and be a solid starter in this league.

I'm sorry only 12 of his 22 homers were solo....so his NON -HR ERA is probably around 1.90

He's got four decent pitches and can reach mid-90s when he needs to. He only has about 30 career starts. Add in a little more experience and some coaching, why can't he be successful as a starter?

strange news: Florida marlins designated Jacob turner for assignment--- Andrew Miller, Cameron Maybin and now Turner-ALL former Tigers number ones...maybe it's Miami Life that is killing Tiger rejects??? If I was DD, I'd resign Turner and give him two years to see if he has anything left.

Don't read too much into Turner's assignment.

When FA starts, most teams put half their roster out for assignment. They expect to withdraw most of the players
so they never actually reach free agency. But, they may be able to sneak a few though waivers whom they really
would like to keep, but send down. Turner may be one of those.

If someone should claim Turner, the Marlins will simply withdraw him from FA.
