Scott Boras creating more headaches. If Scherzer needs more than $24 million per year, let him walk.

He took $15M for this yr. And maybe that was a thank you for last year. I think Justin only gets $10M per. And I know that was a discount. What does Max need ?
I don't see how stopping the negotiations is obliterating the guy. Or even throwing him under the bus.

Justin gets around 26 mil per season...
I figure, based on Justin's girlfriend...
He's entitled to about 8 mil more per season.

Verlander is making $25.7 million per year ($180 million over 7 years). Scherzer was offered $24 million per season ($144 million over 6 years).

If Max tanks this year or gets injured, that's a lot of money he's saying good-bye to...

What a gambler. Gotta take the money in case of injury... which is highly likely for any pitcher.

You would take a measly $144 million. How's a guy supposed to feed his family?

I hope Dombrowski's passive aggressive statement to the press doesn't affect Scherzer.
He's not injured and is a meticulous guy. I see 24 wins and about 200 million
    from SOMEBODY next contract.

He had very high run support last year. He also pitched better than prior years. JV has a better track record and Sanchez had a lower ERA. The offer was very fair.

I don't mind waiting to see if he can back it up if I'm the tigers. If so, pay him then. It's not like it's going to be that much more money per year. And we can always use the money on another pitcher if we get outbid.

If he regresses or gets injured, we will have saved lots of dough.

A pet pit bull is still a pit bull. The Tigers got too comfortable dealing with Boras. Not many players know when to tell the agent to go fly a kite and take the money on the table. I have a feeling this is more about Max wanting to get out from under Verlander's shadow and be the MAN. Perhaps Max wants to make more money than Verlander.

Players these days just want to get theirs and can care less about the fans or winning. Pay everybody 25 million and you in up with a 37 year old at shortstop and a left fielder that probably should be on someone's soft ball team.

He may be making a play at Kate. He knows she digs the fast ball, but probably has doubts about the crazy eye thing. Getting a higher contract is almost necessary.

In all seriousness though, it might be an interesting play for JV to offer to renegotiate his contract to meet max in the middle so that they both make the same. JV would make up the difference through the good PR and insurance of being on a contender for longer. His agent may disagree... it's the Lebron model.

In all seriousness you are being very friendly with JV's contract. I know they know, they need each other, but Sanchez isn't far behind. Dom must keep these guys.
*--''They respect where I'm at. I respect where they're at, and we'll revisit this after the season,'' Scherzer said. ''I still want to be in Detroit. I love this clubhouse and everything about it. There's been a history of this team signing free agents so hopefully I'll be a part of that history as well.''

We'll lose one of those three pitchers next season.
It's not the one you think.
