Veteran reliever Jose Mesa has reached preliminary agreement on a one-year contract with the Detroit Tigers that will pay him about $2.5 million, two baseball sources said Sunday. ESPN.com - MLB - Mesa, Tigers reach agreement on one-year deal I think they're setting up to deal one of their relivers for a position player (fingers crossed they get a lefty bat)
For my money this is a great pickup for the Tigers. He can still get em out, even at 41 and has an unbelievable work ethic which no doubt will rub off on the other guys that could use a little more in that area. Mesa also has more career saves than Mr. Jones and I would rather see him closing if Jones goes down than Rodney or Zumaya, simply because Mesa has been there and done it and can still do it effectively.
