They should put Dmitri Young starting over Shelton full time since all of his flaws are coming out now and all of his bad batting habits...

Not really a trade rumor but didn't know anywhere else to put it:

Detroit Tigers first base coach Andy Van Slyke slammed the managerial approach of Chicago's Ozzie Guillen describing him as a "hot headed" Latino.

Van Slyke should of said this a long time ago!!!

Shelton is an excellent hitter and has become a decent 1B. He has looked like crap at bat most of the time for months, but guys who are in slumps always look bad. He's still young, this is really his first full season in the majors, and many a player has gone through the "sophomore slump" syndrome and been dumped prematurely by teams that lacked patience. That doesn't mean it might not make sense for Dmitri Young to put in a fair bit of time at 1B.

Meanwhile, everyone's darling, Marcus Thames, who carried the team for weeks (as Shelton did in April) has been in a long 0-fer slump and suddenly looks pretty bad up there too. While Craig Monroe and Brandon Inge, who had fans pulling their hair out in frustration at their futility for weeks, now are two of the team's hottest hitters.

You've got to maintain some perspective.

    NEW NEWS: TIGERS TRADE!

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Brian Rogers from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for first baseman Sean Casey. The announcement was made by Dave Littlefield, the Pirates' Senior Vice President and General Manager. No other terms of the deal were announced.

I was looking up the tigers and it this was just updated on their site!

To make room for Casey, Detroit optioned the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo.

    GOOD! He's been struggling!

The Tigers got a real steal in Casey. He will fit right in and will do more than just hit in the clutch and play great first base. He does many little things and is great in the clubhouse.

He is a lifetime 300+ hitter, I believe, and he has power, as well.

They took on some salary but will get a lot in return for it.

he's not really a power hitter - more a contact hitter like polanco. but we don't need more power in the lineup. great trade - didn't give up much, got a lot in return. he's also an excellent fielder at 1st.

Amazing how Shelton was the talk of the league a couple months ago. Baseball's a tough game to stay consistent in.
