Now that the 2009 finals is history, lets go back in history, some feel good history.

Five years ago today, June 15th 2004, the Detroit Pistons shocked the world and won their 3rd NBA championship and as we all celebrated, we all figured that more championships were coming..........oh well.... at least let us sit back and cheer one more time at that last shining moment in Piston lore...

After sitting through weeks listening to Mike Breen, JVG and "mama there goes Mark Jackson", don't you just missed the way Al Michaels called those games??

Also I know the second vid was all highlights, but when was last time you saw so many Pistons points in the paint?

Thank you so much for posting those videos LA Dre. I really really enjoyed them. God, how I miss that team. But nothing stays the same in life I guess. How glorious they were. I'm going to see if I can still find the whole finals series from that championship year somewhere. I never thought of trying to find it until just now. Thanks again.

I watched a slightly different version of the 2nd vid not that long ago on need4sheed. How about Tay mean mugging and pointing into the crown after a dunk?

I've never been a big believer of the they don't play hard school of thought, but watching that video you see some Celtics-esque cheap shots and/or physicality. It could just be a result of being balanced and sharing the ball more, I guess.

Just like with the Lions: Miss Wayne Fontes and those 9-7 years NOW, dont we?

Just like with Dom Hasek: Wish he was out there for Game 7 THIS year, dont we?

Just like with Sparky Anderson's 85 win a year Tigers team vs The alan Trammll, Buddy Bell Tigers team of 2001-2003: We sure missed Captain Hook THEN didnt we?

All in all, a VERY spoiled sports state. Just keepin it real.

OK today is the sixth anniversary of the Pistons last championship....I guess it is time for us to move on now and move those last remaining pieces....

Of course the Lakers still have Kobe, Fisher and Luke Walton from that finals losing team.......if they lose tonight, then that means that June 15th is not a good date for them...:)

when DETROIT PISTONS got it, I was pleasantry surprised how many pistons fans in Estonia showed up in different forums. practically all of them got hooked by bad boys.

I was thinking that this thread was related to Will Blalock's 3-pointer until I realized that it was June instead of January.

There's a DVD out there. I'm sure you can find it on Amazon or a site like it. That was an awesome team, huh?

What was awesome about that team is how they had zero swagger. None. They just came out, too skinny Rip, super sweaty head Chauncey, lanky and innocent Tayshaun, stoic Ben and indifferent Rasheed, and they worked for 48 minutes.

No chest pounding, no howling, no smiling, no hugging. They just worked.

Then they worked themselves into the NBA fraternity of the elite, and lost their edge. When they went from hunter to hunted they lost their edge. They were better when they played with nothing to lose.

That is the difference between JJ and Charlie AllStar. One plays the game like it is his last, the other knows he has 4 more years locked up.

You noticed that big a difference between the 03-04 and 04-05 Pistons? Results aside, they were nearly identical to me.

    Yes.

The results were different for a reason. Mr. D got a big head, Joe D got a big head, LB's head got bigger, Chancey, Sheed, Rip and the switch...

In 04-05 the year they lost to the Spurs?!?! I highly dispute that, but I have never been a believer of the switch theory.

I think that year (starting after the title) is the last year you can defend what Joe did or didn't do. Championship teams for whatever reason always seem to only lose and not replace players for the most part.
