    Detroit News Analysis

    "Detroit
Step 2 in Joe Dumars' "transition" phase is in full effect. He got younger without overpaying for Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva while adapting to the talents of players he wants to build around. The Pistons still have room to maneuver, along with valuable trading chips Dumars can hold onto until the trade deadline next season. Not yet a full-blown contender, but while everyone else is getting older, Detroit is getting younger."

Interesting sidebar piece regarding the caps future; "By the numbers, $57.7M Salary cap set for 2009-10, down from 58.7 in 2008-09.
$50.4M Projected salary cap for 2010-11."

Transitioning doesn't mean Pistons are surrendering
    Chris McCoskey - Detroit News

"Today is not Armageddon for the Pistons. Today is the first day of spring. Today is the day you throw open the windows for the first time after the winter thaw and feel that warm, refreshing, rejuvenating breeze in your face."

Charlie Villanueva could work out if he's given the time
    Michael Rosenberg - Freep

"Villanueva played at least 30 minutes in 29 games last season. His averages in those 29 games: 23.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 36 minutes. The rebound numbers especially impressed me, because when his team has the ball, Villanueva spends a lot of time on the perimeter, and it is hard to rebound from there."

Respect for Dumars brought free agents to Pistons Vince Ellis - Freep

"He just fell in love with Joe Dumars," said Gordon's agent, Raymond Brothers, who was on hand. "As long as there's a good-faith offer, there's no need to go around trying to play one team against the other. It's not fair to the Bulls or fair to the Pistons."

Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva relieved to sign long-term deals with Pistons Sherrod Blakely - Mlive

"The last time I played with Ben, we won a championship," Villanueva said. "That made my decision a little bit easier as far as coming here."

Right. It's huge going forward. Thats $120M that will have to be trimmed off rosters by next years F/A signings. 2010 will be the biggest year in offerings in the last 5 and it's potentially hit with the largest reduction since Cap Space has been in existance..

It'll be a very very interesting summer next year.

Looking at that number, the deals that Varejao or Bargnani got look even more insane!
