I wouldn't mind a 3-4 year extension either. What would be a reasonable contract for Calderon?

So we give up 2 players and get 1 back. This either means that we will have another mismatched trade to follow where we get back more players than we give up (hopefully) or we will be signing another player who's currently out of the league.

    Possibilities on that angle?
    - Daye: ala Hunter after he is bought out by Memphis
    - Ben Wallace: to provide mentoring to Drummond (hate it, but just mentioning it)
    - Some D-league all-star who has an agent that Joe wants to do a favor for
    - Allen Iverson: who must be really broke and who has been begging for a job (hate it more, but you never know)
    - Don Reid: I'm still having trouble letting this one go
    - Sammy Mejia:
    - Darko...

If we had to add a spare part, what makes the most sense?

    Calderon- PG
    Bynum- PG
    Knight- combo
    Stuckey- combo
    English- SG
    Maggette- SG
    Singler- SF
    Jerebko- SF/PF
    Middleton- SF
    Monroe- PF/C
    Maxiell- PF
    Villanueva- PF
    Drummond- C
    Kratksov- C

    PG: 2
    Combo guard: 2
    SG: 2
    SF: 3
    PF: 3 (including Monroe)
    C: 2

We actually seem really balanced. We're not going to add quality with another guy, so not much point. May as well leave it open and sign short term contracts when needed at a specific position if we experience an injury and want extra depth?

    This just made me laugh:

"We are excited to add three players who bring with them a tremendous amount of value to our team and have achieved incredible success on the pro, college and Olympic levels," Wallace said in a statement Wednesday night. "In these players, we welcome NBA Champion and Olympic gold medalist Tayshaun Prince, as well as up-and-coming athletic forwards Ed Davis, who won an NCAA title at North Carolina, and Austin Daye."

Couldn't they find anything for Daye to show for. I guess not...

I like the trade though. Finally getting a real PG for Detroit and freeing up space for the youngsters to play. And also no more ballhogging iso's by Tay.

Should have mentioned his push-up record or willingness to post up Boobie Gibson after being cured by his life coach of his various axieties.

I wish a team like Detroit used the D-League intelligently. A lot of organizations seem to go with the known mediocre asset rather than give a guy from the D-League a chance. There are a bunch of guys there who are talented enough to sit at the end of the bench of many NBA teams. But alas...

This deal opens up cap space, but the last time we had that we ended up with 94 million dollar trash bags. Getting rid of Tayshaun and Daye seems to be a bit of addition by subtraction.

Jose Calderon is a good player and the closest thing to an actual PG the team has had since Chauncey, but he's pretty much middle of the road. Calderon is a capable player and should give good minutes in whatever roll he plays. It will be good to have the bigs get the ball fed to them in a position to score. And from all of the reports I've seen, he's a well liked teammate. As far as his long term future for the Pistons, I don't really see the incentive for him. He'll probably get interest from better teams and it remains to be seen how they manage the rotation with he and Knight. Toronto is the team that convinced him to come over from Spain and is one of the better cities in the world, especially for the international "flavor". Though it can't be completely ignored that the Pistons have the money to persuade.

Even though this seems like another Joe D deal to correct a recent Joe D mistake, I'm glad to see the front office is doing something. I can't pretend I've been even remotely interested in this team the past 2 seasons or so, maybe this will get me to tune in for a game.

From a straight on the court perspective I don't really like this trade. I don't think it will take long to see that Knight can't play the 2. How many 2 guards can't take more than 3 dribbles without stumbling and can't shoot off the dribble that don't already play for the Pistons?

He has a very long neck. He's really only like a 6'9" guy. His shoulders are the same exact level as Maxiell's.

I'm glad that my contract as Daye apologist has been terminated!

remember when Tay was as bad on Dee at SF as BWallace was at C ?
    And was reliable on O as a 3rd or 4th option ?
Imagine what we could've got for him if JD moved him when he cut off the teams head for a headcase !
    At least we got to meet an AIiG {another headcase}

Toronto is as bad or worse than us for 4-5 years now !
    This is a lateral move.
Whoever said this was to clean up prior mistakes and get CapSpace back is dead on.

Toronto is worse, but Calderon is instantly a pg upgrade, which was the weakest position on the team. This was defenitely an upgrade...and even better? its an upgrade with options at the end of the year. I dont know if Dumars made the move? or if he was approached and fell into a pot of gold. Either way, its a win/win.

Wow! This guy hasn't played a single minute as a Piston, and we are talking about extending his contract for 3 or 4 years? Joe D, is that you?

I'm not buying it. We still have no manhood at PG.
Could he get us 5 more wins this year ? Still about .400 [failing]
    10 more next year ?
