I figured this was worth its own thread. The Sideshow Bob contract saga will be over within the next week: either he goes to Charlotte on a 3 year mid-level contract, or the Cavs match the offer sheet and keep him.
I don't remember what offers the Cavs made to him before, and the numbers in the comments on that ESPN story are all over the place, so I'll have to wait to see some decent reporting on this that summarizes the whole thing.
It seems to me that it is in the Cavs best interest to match and that is what will happen, Unless Ferry is too ticked at Varejao.
Maybe we could trade them Nazmo and Murray for their first round pick. Right, dream on. Charlotte Observer | 12/04/2007 | Bobcats interested <br /> in Cavs' Varejao?
Ric Bucher argues that the Cavs got played pretty badly, considering that the Sideshow will be playing elsewhere once he opts out two seasons from now, and that Cleveland will be stuck paying luxury tax for the next couple of seasons just to keep him...plus, if they want to deal him, the CBA rules (no player can be traded for the first three months after he signs a new deal) make it impossible to move him before this season's trading deadline.
the cavs are hosed if they match and have to go into the luxury tax, lose varejao in 2 years anyway, and have no wiggle room for contracts when they have several bad ones already
I guess they just got hosed. Cavs sign Varejao - Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball News, Schedule, Photos, Players and Rumors - cleveland.com
