I'm sure most people have seen the news by now:

Michael Vick signs two-year deal with Philadelphia Eagles - ESPN

I'm kind of surprised that a team which almost made the Super Bowl last year would sign a player who's a lot more certain to bring a big media circus every week than he is to produce on the field, but I guess they figured it was worth a shot.

Thanks for posting it, D4E. Drama aside, I think it will be way interesting to see what they do with him on the field. Although he might not even be able to play until as far as midway through the season. A lot could change by then.

I predict that he's going to have a ruff time.

Apparently, one of the headlines in the Philly newspapers was "Hide Your Dog"

Philly Coach seemed to say no to the idea til just a couple of days ago.
McNabb said the right things (him and Vick are long term friends) but does he really want him around?
This team already had enough offensive weapons...
Did they hire him juse cause their back-up is injured, or is he long term?
Philly fans...Will that crazy bunch have a melt down?
Will Darth Tater take Philly as his week one pick at the NFL "picks" site.:pound:

He must of looked good in tryouts or they wouldn't take the chance.
I hope he tears Philly apart and they go 0-15.

Man, it's cool that someone had footballs to try out Michael Vick. I know Vick said he's not ready, but he has the talent to be a huge offensive playmaker! Let's be honest...Michael Vick > Kolb.

Dunno if this is a serious post or not, but there's 16 games....and Michael Vick was never a cancerous player in the locker room. Not to mention he won't play till week 6.

I like a good redemption story. Didn't really believe him though, when he said that he knew the dog fighting was wrong and he was about to stop before they busted him.

A year + in prison is a pretty big penalty for animal cruelty however. And the amount of $$ he lost because of this was staggering. So, if he can use this to turn his life around, I'll be rooting for him.

If they busted him with cats though... well, I won't even go there.

That really is bizarre...I didn't see the press conference, but from a transcript online, apparently he answered a question about when he knew what he had done was wrong:

Not sure why he would say something so obviously untrue. After he first got into trouble, he lied to Goodell, and he refused to cooperate with the feds until after all his boys had pleaded guilty. The harsh sentence he got, which was more than even the prosecutors were asking for, was due in large part to his having held out for so long before admitting he was guilty.

Aside from that, though, he seems to have made a decent impression at this press conference. He's already paid a huge price over the last couple of years, so while I have little use for him personally, I can accept that there isn't any reason for him to pay any further for it professionally.

Yea...He can come back...but I'm not buying his Jersey. I'd rather buy the "Dominic Raiola" XL...

I'm not buying his "remorse" either. I don't think he's sorry he did it, just sorry he got caught. But I'm not opposed to him coming back. I'm interested in seeing if he can make it.

Vick is broke and everyone found out how sorry his finances are. He's made what, $15M after taxes and now he starts over. That smarts.

    Fear.

Agreed. Although I can't understand why he did what he did, he has paid the penalty. Forgiveness for egregious behavior after punishment is necessary for us all. Otherwise, none of us could learn from our mistakes and move on.

Eagles are on the road the first week. They play the Carolina Panthers.
Carolina is currently a 1.5 point favorite. An intriguing bet...
First week is always tough to make a solid "survivor" pick, since many changes are made off season. I think the Eagles are calling you...Darth Tater.. :shout:

I haven't yet decided if I'm going to enter the "survivor" and/or "picks" game.

Detteam and I were discussing it earlier today. We are ironing out the terms of a deal where you guys have to play fantasy hockey if I join you in this.
