Cry me a river Doc. Doc Rivers of Boston Celtics complains about refereeing, sends videotape to league office - ESPN 2010 NBA Playoffs: Celtics coach Doc Rivers calls Lakers' Derek Fisher a really good flopper - ESPN Los Angeles
I think the refs have been told to tighten up in this series and whenever they do that the calls get really uneven. No two refs have the same standards for tighter calls. Certainly, as far as I can tell, neither Perkins nor Davis has ever set a high screen without being called for a moving screen. But, Doc's just doing what he's got to do.
This is my biggest beef with hockey and basketball.... what is a foul in jan and feb should be a foul in may and june. what is a foul kobe should be a foul for the 15th guy on the roster.... Don't give me the line that folks want to see stars and not the 15th player, these guys would adjust if the games were called on a level basis 365 days a year. As to Doc, every coach does it... sadly its needed, as the greasy wheel gets the grease.... Phil has complained more over the years about ref calls then any coach in history, and he's being called the best coach in the history of the game.
As opposed to Kevin Garnett who has never been called for that. off-topic: In German, the words "gar nett" are slang for "nothing at all" or "absolutely nothing". I think of that a lot when KG bangs his head on the basket uprights.
I like that Van Gundy and Jackson have given up all pretense of toeing the company line and are constantly dismissing replays with a curt "that's not a foul".
Maybe Stern should have them removed from the broadcast table since they are questioning his highly compensated refs and have the Laker announcer and Tom Heinson do the games in the first half and then the Celtics announcer and laker color analyst Stu Lantz do the second half. Talking about a contrast of emotional homerism....
Me too. They are just doing it while they still can! Both are considered for coaching jobs next season. Mark Jackson is correct more often than JVG. That dude has some strange views. Breen just sounds like he's been programmed by an ex-NBA Jam producer... "Puts it in!" "Knocks it down!" "It's good!" "And the foul!" "Whoa-ho. Pretty pass!"
Yep. That was my #1 beef when we had to battle Jordan back in the day. The man got away with everything.
