I'm guessing he gives it up without a second thought. It would be politically correct and a great sign of his leadership (unselfishness).
OK. He's smart, he's still a solid defender, and he plays defense without fouling. He's been hobbled and humbled. Like many have mentioned already, bringing in a legendary defender sets a tone that should be a benefit for the new coach. It should make Kuester's job easier having a guy like Ben keeping others honest on the end of the court that they aren't used to being watched. I hope that he stays healthy and gets a lot of burn with Ben Gordon. They seem like they would be complementary.
Interestingly, it may help pull the forumites back together. It's been somewhat polarized around here since his departure... (not that it is necessarily a bad thing always...)
