I'll try to take your word for it Cloudwalker, perhaps your approach is better... After all I do recall hearing that about Durant as well... I just think Durant was a much more dynamic player and athlete than Daye is... I mean as a freshman he was a freckin ANIMAL at Texas, scoring any way possible!!! I really hope Daye surprises me and many more...

Stephan Curry did 10 reps on the bench press and Daye only did 1? That is not a good sign. Curry is a skinny shrimp and looks like he is 13 years old.

To be fair to Daye, being a lanky 6'11 like he is is the worst build to have for benching. Curry is a fairly normal size.

It is his triple threat potential of being weak, slow and unathletic that gets me going.

Speaking of Curry, Daye supposedly ran .02 seconds slower in his sprint than Eddy Curry did. Must be all that character he is lugging around.

You are right. You should probably get paid for scouting these players from your couch. Keep up the good work.

I hope for his sake (and ours) that the article Cloud posted is 1000% true.

Lets wait until we see the guy on the court. Sheed ain't quick and that didn't bother him. And Shaq, he's really been a Speedy Gonzales throughout his career. He even [SARCASM]managed to fit in with Phoenix run 'n gun[/SARCASM].

No, I've accepted the fact that the Pistons (regardless of ANY realistic moves made by Joe) will not be at a championship contender level next year.....

I agree. I think Joe wants to be seen as a genius...someone who sees things in players that other don't see. So when he drafts these "projects", people will say "joe has done it again". However, in reality, he has failed miserably in the draft. He probably needs more of a independent person close to him that just doesnt say "yes" to everything.

I would just like to remind everyone just how terrible this draft class is and swinging for the fences by taking a player like Daye is not a problem. Who should Joe have taken at that point? I don't like his picks after Daye and Summers, but the people Joe has helping him make these decisions are ten times more qualified than any of us.

Here is Austin Daye in a nutshell (with some help via e-mail from a huge Gonzaga fan)

+ Excellent shooter with a high release point
    + Incredible wingspan
    + 6'11"
    + Large hands
    + Good shotblocker
    + Patient

    - Skinny AND has a high center of gravity
    - Below average athleticism
    - Right knee ACL problems

Sounds like a roleplayer to me. A shooting forward added to one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA. What a terrible pick.

Good post and that's what I want to know - who should he have taken?

When asked of his opinion of who GM's were picking in the top 10. Dick Vitale said something to the effect of its going to get some coaches fired.

Here is a great article explaining Joe's plans for all you Johnny Come Lately fans.

Pistons' draftees add depth but won't play much | detnews.com | The Detroit News

Things are all starting to come together now. We got the back of the bench situated which I think everyone agrees was the biggest weakness on the team last year and we got rookies learning to play positions they have never played before. I will even go out on a limb and say that the Piston have the deepest back end of the bench in the league.

P.S. It seems we better get used to our PF's hanging out by the 3 pt line chucking up shots.

"This is about adding to our talent base," president Joe Dumars said. "In this game today you have to have incredible depth. When you see Cleveland going out and adding a Shaquille O'Neal and Orlando trading for Vince Carter, that tells you just having one superstar on your team isn't enough. You have to have depth, and that's what we've tried to do here."

Sooooo...drafting these guys = adding a Shaq or V.C.? :loco:

Oh, and wait...which one of our guys is OUR superstar anyhow??

I feel kind of stupid posting in this thread now that I know Joe was consulting a 12 or 13 year old kid on his scouting trips.

And that was probably the best scout we ever had.

This is the new NBA Ernie.

You're way behind the times if you don't have a 12-year-old Sweedish kid as a member of your scouting department.

    Get with it man!

The overriding concensus was that we should get Kobe and Lebron like yesterday.
