Is it possible to locate any threads leading up to the 2003 draft? Or was the forum not in existence at that time? Would be very interesting to read people's thoughts at the time on the various prospects.

It was all about the Detroit News forum back then.
If I remember right, every single person on that forum except me was strongly in favor of picking Darko.

I'll continue to have the last laugh at all of your expense unless someone can prove otherwise.

Yeah I was on the Detroit News forum in 2003 and I wanted the Pistons to pick the guy you love to hate...Melo, but everyone kept saying we had potential star in Tay at the three, so the big man was the choice even though no one including Joe had ever seen him play. The thought was that Big Ben would move over to the 4 and the Dorkster could would be the great passing center/shot blocking dominator for the next 10 years :bs:

This is supposed the best of the 2003 draft with only Chris Kamen, TJ Ford
and Darko missing. He must have known when they pulled this picture out of
ten year time capsule he would be forgotten.

Funny Joe could have drafted any of these guys with that # 2 pick other than
the guy wearing # 23 and we probably would have been better off during the
    Flip years.

Yes, ...but would we have been as good during the Larry Brown years?

At least 4 of them would have gotten plenty of minutes during the 04-05 season and enough to outplay, out score and outlast Hunter and Arroyo for time off the bench...and two of them probably could have started when Flip showed up for the 05-06 term...

The only question is whether LB would have still been there for 05-06 if they had repeated since Mr D was already mad at him for entertaining other offers before the post season was over.

Funny that four of the guys in the photo now play on the back to back NBA Champion Heat. Wonder which one jumps to the Heat in off season??

Things that make you go hmmm..

Bosh would have been the best pick for Detroit with the benefit of hindsight.

Play him at the 4 to spread the floor (as sheed would later do) and he is a mobile and able defender.

What didn't Joe see in Bosh that he saw in Darko?

Bosh was not a sure thing coming out at all. That is hindsight. Wade wasn't a lock either.

If the Pistons draft Bosh, then they wouldn't have needed Sheed. Perhaps they would have ended up with ZERO championships.....

Or would Larry Brown'd put him on the end of the bench the whole season long ?

Good point. Brown would have broken Bosh's spirit. Bosh would be retired already.

It seems to me the gamble Joe took on Darko was the same gamble he took on Drummond, obvious physical ability, unknown mental toughness, too young to know how they would mature. One strikeout and one homerun, I think that is batting .500

Tru dat, but conventional wisdom was that Bosh would have still been on the bench learning and would have been the HVC+ instead of Darko. So we should have still gone after Sheed. The difference is that Bosh would probably have progressed enough that they probably would not have signed Mc Dyess the next season..

.It's all speculative. But that's what we have done on the subject matter the last 10 years ....

I think Joe and crew really underestimated the culture shock for a teenager who couldn't speak english very well and came from somewhere very different to America.

What killed Darko early was that he wasn't ready, what killed him late was that his soul was poisoned with bitter.

Also, I didn't really have a dog in the draft that year. I don't really care too much about the draft, I pay closer attention to free agency and trades.

I wonder what we would have had to offer to Cleveland at that time to trade the #2 pick for the #1 pick.
