Off Season • Dime Magazine's Blog - FOX Sports Blogs "Who’s had a worse offseason than the Heat? First they lost Jason Kapono to Toronto. Then there were some very public swings-and-misses with Mo Williams and Grant Hill (not to mention Steve Blake). And the Heat didn’t even get a chance to make a run at Rashard Lewis, but it turns out there’s no way they had enough money to compete with Orlando anyway. Daequan Cook might be a good ballplayer down the road, but you wouldn’t call Miami’s draft haul a blockbuster. And the only upside to Dwyane Wade being on the shelf through the beginning of training camp is that he won’t be worn out from playing with Team USA. They’re not done, though. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the Heat are talking with Steve Francis‘ people, trying to fill that need at PG. On paper, Francis and D-Wade in the backcourt looks real good. If that paper was written up in ‘04. But today? Steve is at least an upgrade over J-Will "…
Miami is in deep this year. I am not sure they can climb out of it. They may struggle to make the playoffs.
They don't have any cap money. 33 mil next season for Shaq/Wade and another nearly 18 mil for Walker/Williams. I do not believe that their owner likes lux tax anymore than most owners.
I'm glad somebody started this thread. Daquan Cook??? Why and the hell did you draft a poor-mans Dwayne Wade, WHEN YOU HAVE DWAYNE WADE?!?!?!??!?!? Man imagine if this was Joe-D and Det, the moderators would be so busy it wouldn't even be funny. You win the ring, then get bounced in the 1st round after a sub-par title defense and then you have an awful draft and free agent season, with no trades on the horizon?????? I hope Shaq has some gas or Diesel left in that tank, if not Wade is going to get worn down to the point of no return.
And why was it that LA didn't want to keep paying the aged Diesel exorbitant amounts of money? Jerry Buss is not looking so dumb after all. Although the Lakers aren't making it out of the first round either, they are in a much better position to make moves, and it seems they have a lot more upside with their youth.
we would have gotten Acie Law if he was available. acie = poor man's Billups. aside from that...maimi....BWHAHAHAHAHAHA
Maybe they can move the franchise to Puerto Rico and then Stern and the other owners would give them a Salary Cap break.
Since they couldn't get Mo Williams and White Chocolate and the Glove are aging, Smush has been signed to feed Wade as he did Kobe last season?? Miami Heat signs point guard Smush Parker -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
Smush didn't feed Kobe. He averaged less than 3 assists a game, which is about as many shots as Kobe makes every quarter in addition to the 4 free throws he attempts every quarter. Smush Parker Statistics - Basketball-Reference.com Kobe Bryant Statistics - Basketball-Reference.com
My bad. Kobe only averaged about 2.5 free throws a quarter, about the same number of field goals he made per quarter.
Lets put it this way...Smush was supposed to feed Kobe, but instead Kobe fed Kobe, and Smush played in Phil's doghouse for most of the second part of the season. Fisher although older than the mush man should be more efffective since he is familiar with the triangle as well Kobe and Phil's antics...
Kobe averaged 5.4 assists a game which is pretty darn good considering the only other guy on the team that could score was Lamar Odom, who was out for an extended period last year. Kobe Bryant Statistics - Basketball-Reference.com
