Coach knew up to 8 months in advance.
AD says nobody knew til December 8th.
Either the coach told the AD right away, or he withheld information.
So the coach, or AD should be punished.
I'm waiting to see what OSU decides to do about this.
Maybe the President of the university will say something, as he likes to [STRIKE]put his foot in his mouth[/STRIKE] speak.

Jim Tressel gets a bye with only a 2 game suspension and a $250 K fine. He could have been a man and resigned, but only politicians involved in sex scandals do that these days.

The kids made the mistakes, which in this case would probably be OK everywhere but the rigid NCAA, so Tressel will stay and probably miss those first two meaningless non-conference games and will be there in the end to try to beat Michigan again whether they have 3 losses or no losses at the end of the season. The boosters would be upset if he were let go or resigned.

This is a sad day because....

-He knowingly let the players play in 2010, knowing they had done wrong.
-He promised the informant an investigation, then swept it under the rug.
-Then...Tressel preached integrity and honesty to his players.
-He convinced them to stay one more year, based on their mistakes.
-He convinced the NCAA to let the players play in the bowl game...why
-So he could collect his bonus for the Bowl game and victory...
-I hope the NCAA makes OSU forfiet those 2010 games and provide other sanctions.

    the guy is a .....

I like Colin Cowherd's take on this situation:

Reminded us that Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl was suspended 8 games for a probable equally serious matter. (hosting recruits at a cookout at his house and lying about it)

BYU takes it's team out of probable final four by holding up the honor code

But OSU suspends it coach only 2 games, (probably against Roast Beef Tech and Salami State while his players who were convinced to comeback are suspended five games?

Tressell Vest makes $3.5 mill per year, but is only fined $250,000....(have to assume he also loses the paychecks for those two suspended games which could total out to $270K for each??

When you make $3.5M, you should be able to handle a crisis and not ignore or sweep it under the rug...

You phrased it funny but it is so very true. OSU essentially gets no punishment. What a joke.

It's like in the NBA when the "super stars" get every foul call their way. It's such crap. The guys who need it least always seem to get the benefits from the powers that be. Every time!

I root for MSU but that garbage is one of the main reasons I really don't like college sports.

I'm still ticked that in the NBA a phantom foul cost the Pistons a championship!!!

Cookouts and guys trying to sell their own stuff!!! It is this type of sickening behavior that pushes me away from the world of sports.

One school lives up to a self set standard, and one school shows that winning is more important then anything....

Thats what we've seen from the NCAA in the last 10 days, I would hope all schools would strive to be more like BYU then that school in columbus.

Whether you agree with the rules or not one school stood tall when there's were broke and the other wants to not even slap the wrist of its coach when they broke the rules, ignored the rule breaking, lied about knowing about the rule breaking, and then try to just barely deal with it.

    Sad.....

With Vests record against UoM he could lose 3 straight against UoM and still get free meals throughout the state.
I don't think this is over. Yahoo Sports uncovered this.

LOL @ the NCAA. They have been revoking a few individual and team trophies every week since I started following it. Gotta love it!

The real penalty is that they can ruin a program for years... Michigan bball for instance.

People need to remember that Sweatvest may go down as their greatest coach ever...as far as wins and losses goes. With him out of the way, they should suffer just because they'll struggle after the penalty period with trying to reach those lofty heights that they recently experienced. Imagine...7 Big Ten Titles, a 9-1 record against Michigan, and a National Championship all in 10 seasons.

Even though I hated losing to those guys, it was a truly remarkable run that they had.

I'm hoping with Brady Hoke, that UM will achieve heights OSU will be unable to match without Tressel...

All he did was, not squeal on the players. Then play dumb when questions were asked. This was not a grand jury.
