Thanks.....agreed...... obviously, I looked at both players. I almost took Russell over Chamberlain, but I just couldn't do it. I left Jordan off Cause this is The Piston's Forum...............
I'm too young (not often that I get to say that) to have seen Wilt or Russell. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
This thread is really cool, because it's asking us who's the best player we've ever SEEN. Looking at our lists shows the different age groups and basketball perspectives. Example, I know Pistol Pete and the Big O were awesome, but I've never actually seen them play. Sweet Idea!
Going 2 deep I would go with PG: Magic, Isiah SG: Jordan, Kobe SF: James, Bird PF: Duncan, Malone - only position thats not a slam dunk for me. C: Olajuwon, Kareem.
The best player I ever saw play basketball has probably got to be Michael Jordan, and then second place is a tie between Isiah and Magic.
I agree with many of the names listed based on their body of work. Then there are the "could have beens" if it weren't for a twist of fate, 2 names come to mind: 1.) Earl Manigault "The Goat"-Kareem actually considers him the greatest he ever saw 2.) Len Bias
Grant Hill had the god given ability and according to Kander he still is tops in the balance exercise he puts all players through, from ability standpoint and without the injuries-maybe. But he just didn't seem to have that killer drive that Jordan had, he always appeared to be the nice guy. Bias from what I have seen had an aggression and explosion in college plus the size. What a battle he could have waged against Jordan in the pros.
I know that were talking about the best players but here's a quickie about one of the worst players: I remember watching a game on PASS Sports in the early 90's that ranks as one of my favorite all-time George Blaha moments. The Pistons were playing the Bucks and Fred Roberts checked into the game. Blaha said the following: "Fred Roberts now in for Milwaukee." ...(pause) ..."arguably the WORST player in the NBA." ...(extremely long, awkward pause)
