My vote goes to Steve Kerr. He has pretty much ran the Suns franchise to the ground. From being title contenders just a couple of years ago to not even winning half of their games this past season. Dumars is a close second.
Otis Smith Most untrustworthy GM in the biz, if he's not overpaying, no one is playing for him. Has the most dominant player in the NBA, and let's his best supporting guy walk for an aging and done VC. Reminds me of the CB for AI swap. Cant pay Turk, but signs Gortat, a 10mpg player, for 7 mil plus? Huh? The team may be in the top 5 for the next 2 years, but they won't win a championship, and they are so far and away screwed with the salary cap that there is no way they can add any decent talent. Number two would be David Kahn, worst handling of 2 lottery picks in a single year ever.
Good point 16 mile, i forgot all about Otis Smith. That deal was strange, signing Gortat but letting Turk go to Toronto, who was a key player for the Magic during these last playoffs.
GM's clearly worse than Joe Dumards: Rick Sund - Atlanta Rod Higgins - Charlotte Jon Paxson - Chicago Larry Riley - Golden State Larry Bird - Indiana Mike Dunleavy - LA Clippers Chris Wallace - Memphis Otis Smith - Orlando Geoff Petrie - Sacremento
Oh don't get me wrong, there are plenty other gm's who haven't done anything in the league. But off late the moves that Dumars has made have landed the Pistons in a soup. But as 16 mile pointed out, i completely forgot about Otis and Paxson. I'll have to bump Dumars way down the list, my bad.
Dumars a bad GM?You are joking right?First the signs aren't that bad and second no one really thinks that Dumars will keep the curent core,if they suck and don't produce wins. My vote goes for Chris Wallace.
When you see the list of bad GMs, it puts Joe in perspective. He may have done some bad moves lately, but at worst he's sinking into mediocrity. The bad GMs are just really, really, bad.
Us........not the Pistons, but the members of this forum; me myself and I included. (shout out to de la soul)
I can't disagree. But for drafts or trades? Is Joe a Skita or a Darko, or is he a Howard/DWade/LeBron? It seems to me that Rodney Stuckey might decide the answer to that question, whether Joe is a can't miss pick or a gamble at number 5.
Tie between Larry Bird and [STRIKE]Isiah Thomas[/STRIKE]... Both had gifts as players, but unable to transfer their talents.
We are so spoiled it's rediculous. Since Joe has been GM we have been one of the best teams in the league, held the attendance record, and never payed the luxury tax, we've never been stuck with a bad contract or untradeable player, When you look at the payroll the contracts always match the player production (ie or 8th man doesn;t make 5x's more than our starting PF etc etc) and he's NEVER overpaid a player, and we ALWAYS keep our own FA's - at least the ones we want to keep, nobody bolts for the door first chance they get. Funny how folks don't even know the job description yet think they're capable of facilitating the evaluation.
I think we have to wait to see how things pan out before crucifying Dumars. I know he has traded/did not sign back a lot of our favorite players but that's not to say one can judge his rebuilding plan right now before a single game has been played. Whoever is running Sacramento and Washington would be tops on my list. Nothing they try has been working.
Fans who named Joe is one among the worst didn't stay most of their time on this planet for the past 10 years, I reckoned.
Being a GM is a tough business. One minute you're lauded for signing Jarvis Hayes and the next you're the 2nd worst GM in the L.
