Yeah I agree we need to have a coach ASAP. With free agency coming up in 7 hours...who would want to join this team when it's clear we are on the downhill and now we have no coach. I think this is one of the reasons Curry was fired, no one in the league would want to play for him. We should have just fired him after the season ended though..

I would take Tom Thibideau since the Celts are allowing him to interview.

We need to get back to defense and he has that defensive minded DNA that can possibly get us back there. Since tibby needs a staff, get rid of every one except Walker and hire Laims as one of the assistants so he can began cutting his teeth in the NBA.

Doug Collins. He has had success wherever he has been. He has tended to wear out his welcome with his overbearing manner but apparently that has mellowed over the years. He coached Rip in Washington.

Laimbeer is a question mark. We need an experienced head coach to get this train on the right track.

NBA.com: Pistons zero in on coaching candidates to replace Curry

According to this source, Laimbeer, Izzo, and JVG are not on the list.

Extremely happy about the news but you got to know that any coach now is never going to trust Joe's word when he says, "Your job is safe kid." Second time Joe went out on a limb and said the coaching job was safe and then fired the guy. I'm not complaining however because I want us to get Bill Laimbeer bad.

"My family and I have an understanding and they know I want to do it (coach) one more time," Collins said during a phone interview from San Diego. "It has to be the right situation, but everybody knows I have a great affection for Detroit and the Pistons organization. They are committed to winning."

Doug has many similarities to LB (whose name I raise merely as a recently known point of reference):

    - ultra high maintenance
    - knows how to jump start a team
    - worth at least 5 wins per season
    - classic old school teacher type, perfect for developing Stuckey, Bynum, Gordon, and the rookies, etc.
    - does not play rookies!
    - will wear out his welcome before too long

    Seems like a match.

Great coaches don't care about job security.

I just heard on ESPN that Sam Mitchel is on Joe D's short list of coaches... Good, bad, ugly?

Too many rumors floating around, as there should be in the case like this. We can speculate all we want, but a lot depends on how the new coach will mesh with the team and how team will respond. Joe has to know the next coach by now. As many people already said, Joe wouldn't have fired Curry if he didn't have something in works.

Sheed would be a little too much. He definitely has basketball knowledge, but his emotional instability would hurt the team as it does when he plays.

It helps if you get to keep all the money upon early termination.

I don't know. Maybe Collins. Certainly not Cowens.

The "source" for that David Aldridge NBA.com story was local sports genius Rob Parker, he spit out his inside info at "Click On Detroit" this afternoon. His (Parkers) opinion and 50 cents is worth a stale candy bar..

That's G. That's good news. In other words the coaching search is wide open, save for Joe wanting someone with (positive) head coaching experience.

There are few other guys out there not being mentioned that could be on the radar screen.

    Mo Cheeks
    Sam Mitchell
    Terry Porter
    Doug Cowens

You don't have to like them and I'm not advocating, just pointing out there are a number of options beyond those noted in the first 5 minutes after Curry became currie...
