If I was UM, I would hire a proven coach, a coach that has a chip on his shoulder, and would like to drive the other Big Ten teams into the ground. I would hire Bobby Knight. This guy would turn UM around in a heartbeat. Very little doubt in my mind he would have them playing in the tournament next year (not the NIT either). Bobby Knight would love to take it to Indiana. He'd kill Indiana in recruiting I bet. To me, it would be a perfect fit. By the way. We could use a Big Ten category. I was struggling to find a place to put this thread. Plus I was afraid someone else already had one and I may have made a duplicate. I checked three times to make sure there wasn't one so I think I am safe.
Never happen. First of all, they'll hire someone on the way up (like they thought Amaker was) because they can underpay him. That's why they couldn't get Tubby. Wouldn't want to pay him. UM likes to go on its reputation -- not money.
Hire Bill Laimbeer.........He's local and can recruit. He's got national recognition and has won championships both as a player and a coach.
I'm sure you know alot more about UM than me, so you are probably right. If true, that is sad. A multimillion dollar organization not getting the best coach they can becasue they are either too tight or too proud? Guys over on the Big Ten forum often talk about the facilities being so bad. Sounds to me like UM needs to start relying less on their previous reputation and start focusing on being the best. Of course, I'm okay with it continuing as is. Sounds like someone over there needs to get a little more education or they are going to continue down mediocrity. I'd be honked if I was a UM fan.
I don't know if I know more than you. You're on the Big 10 Forum more than me probably. It just has a reputation as a football school. A football school that continually loses big games season after season after season ...
Looks like they will be interviewing the WVU Moutaineer coach this weekend. If they hang on to win the NIT tonight, his reward would be coaching at a school that has won two NIT titles.
Michigan likes the idea of hiring the coach from West Virginia. The last coach they got from West Virginia was Fielding Yost...............
It looks like it is going to be Beilein, which brings me to my new word I thought of today. What do you call the process in which UM selects a basketball coach? Drum roll please. NITpicking.
