Are the Bobcats going to make a run at Billups?

Bobcat beat writer Rick Bonnell points out that Charlotte could be setting up to make a run at Billups.
June 27, Charlotte.com: Someone close to Brevin Knight is taking it for granted that the Bobcats will buy out the final season of Knight's contract. The Bobcats have that option, turning a $4 million-plus obligation into a $1.5 million buy-out. That same source suspects the Bobcats could make some sort of a bid for Chauncey Billups in free-agency.

Alas, someone else maybe getting in on CB Train. Keep in mind, the Bobcats are one of a few teams that can throw major money at CB because they are way under the Cap.

Do we have a way to get in touch with Chauncey's wife? Wonder how she'd like Charlotte.

If he goes (at an insane pricetag) then he goes and I'm fine with it.

If he stays at a decent price (11-13 mill tops) then I'm fine with it.

    He's a great player but he isn't a 15-20 mill a year guy 3 to 5 years from now.

He should sign and 3 year deal with a 4th player option and then try to cash in one more time. Now that would be smart.

You beat me to the punch on that one...I doubt if Piper Billups wants to move to North Carolina. She likes living in the blue states:)

On another note, if the Cats do buy out Knight's contract, is there a possibility that the Pistons sign both Billups and then Knight for his back up...

a sign and trade with Charlotte would be ideal. They have talent we are interested in.

Who in particular? Wallace? And who will run the point for Pistons?

If Chauncey chases the money to another team, you're looking at damage control. I'm not saying that dealing cb should be a #1 option.

but getting back knight and G.wallace would be decent consolation prizes. What other team can offer something decent?

You're correct in the case CB decides to walk. We could get Gasol from Memphis.
Or how about this - Hill, Milicic, and Arroyo + draft pic. :gun1:

CB could be worth Gwall and their #8 pick...they seem to be ho-hum about it.

Yeah I'd definitely want to get back one of their draft picks, preferably #8. Only problem with having GW is that either he or Tay would have to come off the bench. Something neither of them would be willing to do.

I do want Nick Young though and sources say he won't be around at #15.

I think Tay would/might come off the pine in a "Ginobili" type role.

Except Tay is nowhere the game changer that Ginobili is.

I'd say it depends on the matchup.

Tay made a huge difference vs Orlando and Chicago on the block (how soon we forget), and was borderline worthless vs CLE (I'd love to forget).

I'd say Manu is a B- Defender and a A- offensive player, and flip those and you'd have Tay.

GWallace is athletic enough to play against most PF's. A line up that features him and Tay at the forward positions with Sheed at the C may be small, but these days, small ball ain't no problem against most teams.
Plus, you can vary with the starting unit- something that this team would really need. The core has been the same for too long.

Yes but that would be asking Flip to make adjustments. The guy can't even adjust his rear-view mirror...

The small ball lineup would be a problem for Pistons because they can't run. Anybody who went small and fast (see GS games) just blew by Pistons.

He takes what the defense gives.

That is only acceptable at certain times. Majority of the time you have to go get what you want because no one is going to just let you have it.

Bobcats took out themselves out of Chauncey sweepstakes. They won't have the money now that they took on Richardson's contract.
