Decent write up by Mitch Albom.

The Wings have confidence in Osgood to backstop them this season. Probably with a youngster as a back-up.

MITCH ALBOM: Red Wings owner has confidence in Osgood

My take: I agree Osgood played well last season, and I would have liked to see him come in when Manny was struggling in the playoffs. I say take a chance on him. And if he struggles, use the youth. The last thing this team needs is another old veteran.

"And I think I heard him smile, if you can hear a smile over the telephone."

Yeah, I like Albom's writing. Always hits the human side.

I say give it a go with Osgood and see what happens. I'm just so thankful Belfour is not a Wing. If Osgood falters, maybe one of the young guys will shine. If not, they can make a deal at some point in the season.

I already said "old veteran", so yeah you can say Hasek, but I already did.
