Schadenfreude is enjoyment taken from the misfortune of someone else. I thought it may be fun to point out the worst statlines in the NBA each night. It'll at least give us something to feel better about when the Pistons lose or have the night off. This is obviously subjective and you can let anything factor into your analysis. Expectations, embarrassment factor, turnovers, missed shots, etc. I may as well start with last night's games. For the winner, I'm going to break the rules on the first day and go with the combined statline of a dynamic duo. Because Larry Brown is their coach and demands perfection, this makes it worse for these guys. Sean May + Jared Dudley: 37:59 minutes played as starters 1 pt (0-8 shooting, 1-4 from the line) 4 reb/ 1 ast/ 2 stl/ 0 blk/ 5 fouls/ 3 TO Honorable Mention: R. Lopez- 20:28 min/ 5 pts/ 2 reb/ 0 ast/ 0 stl/ 0 blk/ 2 TO/ 6 PF as a starter. His .400 FG% saves him.
i dunno why everyone was so high on may coming in...you saw in march madness that he wasn't nba-conditioned or nba-ready when michigan state ran him out of the gym and he was so gassed he could hardly move
This is a good idea cause I know I be very pissed off when the Pistons lose a game. I don't care who we lose to. I have a little horrible stat. It's from the Phoenix Suns @ L.A. Clippers last night. The Suns took 14 3-pointers and only made two!! And the Clippers took 12 and only made 1. It's look like eventhough Mike D'Antoni is gone from Phoenix, he still left his foolish mark of three pointers with them and the Clippers just suck
May I offer a honorable title for "worst...night" ? "Arvis of the Game" Nominated can be players, coaches, refs, NBA commissioner, towelboys, etc.
Tonight was tough and there weren't any horrendous performances. But the winner is: Mark Madsen. They gave him the start and he decided to go all binary. 0 points (0-0 shooting) 1 rebound 0 assists 0 steals 0 blocks 1 turnover 1 personal foul. (In his defense, he didn't take any shots, didn't do anything wrong per se, and he only played 12 minutes. Maybe coach would have left him in there a little longer if he would have done anything at all. )
Another big man coming at you with a weak sauce performance. Darius Songaila- 17 minutes 2 points (0 for 5 shooting) 0 rebounds 0 assists 1 steal 0 blocks 2 turnovers 2 fouls Decent night for his teammate and former Pistons, Juan Dixon. 12 points on 5-7 shooting with a couple treys.
That just downright sucks but hey he's a Wizard! David Lee 26 minutes 2 points (1 for 7 shooting) 7 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal 2 turnovers 5 fouls
I thought about Lee, but I can't punish a guy who almost led his team in rebounding. When your shot's off, then you gotta still add value somewhere, which he did.
For opening night, I'm going to have to be cruel and give it to Greg Oden in his first (and hopefully not last) NBA game. In an anticipated clash of the big men, G.O., after missing an entire season, was set to go against Andrew Bynum, who also missed a huge part of last season. 2 young big men with more potential than any others. G.O. 13 minutes 0 points on 0-4 shooting 0 for 2 from the free throw line 5 rebounds (very good for low minutes btw) 0 assists 0 steals 1 block 2 turnovers 2 fouls -13 +/- And the worst stat of all, 1 sprained foot/ankle. If it wasn't for Oden's injury, I probably would have given this to Channing Frye for his 0-7 shooting off the bench.
Last night: Runners up: Bowen- 21 minutes, 0 points. Probably played good D, but didn't watch. Milicic- 17 minutes, 2 points. Not sure who he was guarding, but both of Houston's bigs went long on rebounds... and DM's minutes were cut short, so assuming he wasn't doing much out there. Johan Petro- 17 min, 2 points. Kleiza- 1 for 8 from the floor as a starter with AI feeding him open looks. But the winner is... Brent Barry, who is now playing for Houston. 22 min/ 0-2 shooting/ 1 reb/ 0 ast/ 0 stl/ 0 blck/ 0to/ 0 PF. Looks like a classic case of aging 3-point specialist camping out weak side all night. Not horrendous, just anemic.
Oct 30th: For only 3 games, there was lots of competition. Winner: Wally Szczerbiak- 6:40 0 points (0-2 shooting) 0 rebs 0 ast 0 stl 0 blk 2 to 3 pf I considered sparing him since he only played a few minutes, but I'm not sure how any coach could have left him in with this negative production. Others in the running Mike James, Sean May (again), and Linton Johnson (10 min, 1PF). Also, Nazr with 1 reb and 2pf in 13 min. Go Naz!
That is basically what the stat line would look like if you threw one of us in an NBA game for 7 minutes.
If I'm open anywhere inside half court, I'm jacking up a trey bomb from downtown. I'm quite sure that if I get 3 or 4 looks, I will make a three. And I will foul out in a quarter, even if the refs swallow their whistles.
Face it, there is only one person in this forum who has deep enough range and running stamina to routinely get a shot off in an NBA game.
I played high school hoops and still run some pickup ball. ...I'd like to think I'd be good for a few AOTGs if I got some burn in the NBA.
