This is my biggest issue with Randolph the person. I would hope it would put to rest any thoughts of bringing this guy here because he can shoot and rebound. The $2 Million Complaint Against Zach Randolph
The biggest difference between the Rasheed trade and this possible Randolph move is the level of risk. Rasheed was in the last year of his deal, so if he didn't work out, we could just let him walk. Randolph has 4 years and 60+ million remaining on his contract.
Sounds like a scene from Caligula. (Truehoop link) Actually Caligula was probably a nice fella compared to Zach. I just changed my mind about Randolph.
Yeah. On a positive note though, he does use condoms. And if you think about it there are a lot of musicians and actors that have degenerate lifestyles but still are able to perform at a high level. And it's nice that he shares.
Heres' one possible trade that would probably work- ESPN.com - NBA - Trade Machine Results In that trade we would be giving up Sheed and Rip, and getting back Jamal Crawford and Zack Randolph. I'm not sure that I'm in love with the deal, but it makes us younger, give us a low-post scorer, and a off guard who can create his own shot. Discuss.
I don't think we want to exchange Rip for Crawford. We'll lose whatever little defense we've had. Also, if Knicks want Sheed so bad, why don't they throw in Lee.
You are giving up something in the Rip for Crawford deal, though I think that Crawford would probably have better numbers playing with Prince and Billups. If you want Randolph, then you're going to have to give up something. I wouldn't mind having Lee. That kid is a crazy rebounder/hustle player. I wouldn't mind having Lee and Maxiell at the four, and Randolph and Dyess at the pivot, we could rotate Amir in as much as possible. That would be a fun five man big rotation. You draft Chauncey's back up at #15 (Stuckey, Crittendon, Law, whoever), then you bring in either Stackhouse or Grant Hill for the MLE, and we're back in business. That's a young, fun team with a nice veteran core. ESPN.com - NBA - Trade Machine Results How about that?
All that front door and back door stuff is getting me HOT!! Sure would be nice if the lady was AWAKE(lol). Ok, he's got character issues, but he sounds like a great guy to be around. I wonder if he knows Bill Clinton? I'd love to party with those two cats.
I posted this because thats I was hearing and John Hammonds seemed to endourse him. I would say he is not for us. Mainly because of being undersized and a poor defender. We saw up-front how damaging a weak front court defender can be with Nazr Mohammed. If the guy gives up as many points as he scores then its not going to do us any good. Plus I would be cautious about taking a star player from one of the worst teams in the league. Any solid front court guy would have helped his team win more games.
Rape and drug use are the worst of the character issues? Probably eight to ten players on the Pistons right now have done the same (cough, Chauncey). If he were extraordinarily lazy in practice or had serious issues with coaches or other players, that would put any thoughts to rest. But predatory sexual tendencies? That's just the price we pay for glorifying young men for playing a children's game.
Ok, he's notoriously lazy and has had numerous problems with Nate McMillan. ;) Character does count. Why marry a massive contract for a guy who has outstanding legal issues, and has shown repeatedly through his career that he is not about winning, he is not about team, and he is more interested in the "lifestyle" than being the best he can be? We're all looking at the Spurs as the model franchise, and except for a loudmouthed Eva Longoria, there aren't a lot of their closeted skeletons coming to light. I'm all for Joe making rebuilding moves if he thinks that is the right tact, but you can't rebuild on crap attitudes. After all, isn't that supposedly why we are entertaining thoughts about rebuilding now?
I agree. While I don't like Randolph, based on the things I've heard about him, these allegations are far from proven at this point.
That goes to my point as well though. Does having a player with "allegations" of this nature surfacing about him conducive to a "Pistons atmosphere"? We shipped out Darko's butt after he was driving with tinted windows and unpaid parking tickets (sic) despite the fact that he is a future HOFer and on the doorstep of a 12 All-Star game run in his career.
Hold on a sec. I revise my position. If we're trading Sheed and getting Randolph, I think that is great. He's exactly the kind of player who will respond to Flip Saunders. Yup, make it happen Joe.
IMO Sheed had a crap attitude before he worked under LB. The difference a good coach can make... Sheed is fighting his regression under Flipper...I'm glad to see it.
