Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

I have no idea whether my team is good or bad. I approached the draft the same way I approached my fantasy football and basketball drafts so I should be at the top or an average team. I had to step away for a few of the later rounds and I let the computer draft for me. Can anyone point out a weakness or strength?

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

I've been labelled the defacto expert, but I am not. I finished 5th in my first baseball league and haven't really followed much baseball since the strike when the Montreal Expos got screwed out of a championship.

My advice is to make sure you have strong categories just like in any other league. Don't underestimate ERA, WHIP or Batting %. If you do, make sure you have some wild cards like Saves, CGs, Strikeouts, SBs etc to hag your hat on.

I'm sure within a couple weeks, folks will get a feel for what their team is good or bad at, and probably develop some strategies.

At this point, I reckon everyone should be looking for potential cuts, injuries and overlooked free agents.

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

Here are some milestones I use to judge players by.

Batting % - anything less than .280, you better be stealing bases or hitting dingers.

ERA - Anything over 3.5 and this guy better be a bolt thrower.

WHIP - 1.3 and under is good.

Your relievers should have a low ERA + WHIP and if they throw strikes, that is an even bigger bonus.

Positionally, you will get different stuff out of each guy. Some guys hit for AVG, for power, some guys run the bases. I think it is logical to conclude that we should be looking to group our guys around things like power or base running so that we have strong cats to compete on.

At the request of a couple GMs, trades are suspended until season start.

Please remember when making trades to keep them reasonable and equitable for both sides.

I think my offer of Pete Rose for Ortiz, Pujols and Santana was fair for both sides. If you didn't like it, you could have counter offered.

Fine, I'll throw in Nolan Ryan.

Baseballers is my 13-year-old kid. He went a little crazy with trade offers a couple of hours after the draft. When I found out, I explained the player rankings to him and clarified to him that you can't offer up a guy ranked #250 for a top-20 player. He's learning...

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

I am NOT making ANY baseball trades. I am the worst trader of all time. I have never won or come out even in a trade yet!
