I'm flexible. Whatever is decided is fine with me. I'll adjust although in the middle of the day on a weekday probably would not work for anyone.

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

7 probably won't work for me as I work until 6 and then will spend some time with my daughter before putting her to bed.

If I can't make it, no big deal. I can pre-rank.

I work 2-10 mountain every day except tomorrow this week, so I'll need to pre-rank unless I can get someone to switch with me (remote). No big deal though.

Will the league be set up soon so I can start pre ranking?

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

can someone help me out here? i'm searching everywhere trying to find out what categories stand for, but they all assume you know how to play baseball before you play fantasy baseball. Yahoo is totally useless for explaining the categories to a non-baseball person.

Can someone please fill in the gaps or correct any mistaken guesses of mine? thanks!

Batting
H/AB - I'm guessing this is Hits/At Bat - how many time you batted and hit the ball
R - Runs
H - Hits
HR - Home Runs
RBI - Runs Batted In
SB - Stolen Bases?
AVG - No idea what this average is of

Pitching
IP - Innings Pitched?
W - Walks?
CG - Don't Know
SV - Don't know
K - Don't know
ERA - Don't know
WHIP - Don't know

I don't fully understand the scoring categories. Is walks a positive or negative category? Are there any negative categories? (like turnovers)

Now there are two types of pitchers am i right? Starting and Replacement? Starting does most of the pitching, then the replacement fills in for like an innings or at the end, is that the gist of it?

Any other basics someone can pass along would be most excellent. thanks.

Batting average. How many hits per at bats. I'd say .300 and above is excellent. .280 & above is very good. .270 & above is good. You just take your total at bats (walks & sacrifice flies don't count) and divide by your hits..250-.269 so so. Depends on position. Like outfielders should have higher batting averages than infielders.

Pitchers hit like crap. American League pitchers don't even bat. Designated hitters hit for them on their turn (but don't play the field). National league pitchers do hit...but are generally crappy.

Pitching
IP - Innings Pitched? Yes
W - Walks? yes
CG - Don't Know complete games (by pitcher)
SV - Don't know saves (relief pitchers)
K - Don't know strike outs by pitcher
ERA - Earned run average (how many earned runs a Pitcher gives up on avg. per outing...errors by fielders dont count toward it)
WHIP - Don't know. Something Wins or walks __ innings pitched? not sure.

I don't fully understand the scoring categories. Is walks a positive or negative category? Are there any negative categories? (like turnovers)
Errors are negative. Walks are a good thing for batters...bad for pitchers. You get on base so you can score.

I'll try to think of more things and maybe do another post if I do, but you asked good questions which basically cover it. If I wasn't clear lemme know.

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

WHIP

Walks Hits Inning Pitched

It's one of the newer statistical measures.

Think PER for pitchers.

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

Those are not the cats per se that we are playing.

Here is our list.

For Batters

Runs (scored)
Hits
Home Runs
RBI (Runs Batted In)
Stolen Bases
Batting Average

The above are ALL positive stats.

For Pitchers

Wins
Complete Games
Saves
Strikeouts
ERA (Earned Run Average = Earned Runs / Innings Pitched)
WHIP (Walks+Hits allowed divided by Innings Pitched)

WHIP and ERA are negative stats. You want to be the low man on these. The rest are positive.

Re: PF.com Fantasy Baseball?

Thanks Darth/Roscoe. That was a great help. Just a couple i'm still not sure on.

Just checked the stats, and seems like this cat is pretty useless. The high total for starting pitchers last season was 6. and only 5 relief pitchers managed a single CG. Why is this a standard category?

Saves - Still don't know what a save is.
Thanks again.
