Re: TIGERBEAT presented by Stroh's

The Tigers added another reliever to the mix of their depleted bullpen, acquiring right-hander Jose Capellan from the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday morning for Minor League left-hander Chris Cody.
The 26-year-old Capellan has spent the past month in the Milwaukee bullpen after being promoted from the rotation at Triple-A Nashville. He's 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in seven games for the Brewers, scattering 10 hits over 12 innings with six walks and eight strikeouts.
Capellan was a key piece of the Brewers' relief corps in 2006, making 61 appearances and posting a 4-2 record with a 4.40 ERA. However, he was optioned out to Nashville at the end of Spring Training and requested a trade soon after. He was placed on the restricted list later in April after leaving the team for two days, but has had a clean record since.

TIGERS CORNER: Uh-oh! Zumaya's return delayed
Quote:
Joel Zumaya's timetable is changing.
The Tigers reliever said before Saturday's game that he might not return until September.

"I was expecting to come back in August, but I'll probably be back in September," Zumaya said. "I'll give it the extra caution if I can get a better feel for my finger. "I know they're trying to see how fast I can get back and be healthy. But I have a second opinion, too, and leaving me out for the extra month of August just so I can say I'm really ready now."

We finally got to see what Bondo can do if he gets through the first inning without troubles. A great game for him 8 innings 6 hits 7 K's with only 1 BB. Thames with the only run of the game on a solo HR. Jones with the surprisingly quick save. Tigers salvage one game against Twins.

The problem is our home record is not championship material. (20-18) and we let the Twins and Rangers come into Comerica and take 4 out of six last week. The Indians are just a shade under .500 on the road, but are playing better ball pitching wise than we have been doing the past week other than Rogers and Bodermans's two recent gems.

The Tigers have to take at least four out of six from the tribe and bosox to go into the Alstar break with some second half momentum and feeling good about themselves. Duplicating last weeks poor effort could put them in danger of relinquishing the wild card spot to the streaking Mariners by the break. (They are only 1 game back right now).

Go Tigers

Interesting how the Mariners manager just quit after 35 years in baseball. And when the team was on an 8 game winning streak. Hopefully, they're not too affected..........
