I loved the rip on Bonds the most.

Re: Shef criticizes Torre, says blacks treated differently on Yankees

I have to agree with Sheffield on this one. IMO, the Yankees organization and NY sports writers in general are getting pretty biased. It's too bad, because NYC use to be the most open and accepting place in the country. Not any more.

Sheffield is the best example of this bias, but I would include Alex Rodriguez and other lesser players, such as Rondell White and Hideki Irabu also.

The Yankees organization and the NY sports writers ripped Sheffield for years, and have ripped Rodriquez for years also, and those two guys produced huge numbers for the Yankees year after year after year. And both are shoo-in HOFers.

Yet, some two bit clown, like Jason Giambi, who has been hurt most of his tenure as a Yankee, has produced tempid numbers and who has admitted to using both steroids and amphedamines is treated with kidd gloves by Torre, the Yankees and the NY sports writers. Shameful.

And currently, the Yankees have exactly zero African-American players, unless you include Jeter, who is, as Sheffield points out, of mixed ethnicity. I swear, the Yankees, the sports writers and the Yankee fans are getting almost as biased as the Red Sox and their writers and fans. It's a sad state of affairs.

And the same is true of the Mets. The Mets have zero African-American players, except for budding prospect, Lastings Milledge, and the press never misses an oportunity to blast Milledge.

Sorry for the rant.

Good post, Murph. One thing to point out as well is that there are fewer Black men playing the game these days so that could partially explain the dearth on the Bum Sox and Stinkees. But, historically, these organizations have been incredibly racist.

Sounds like Kenny Lofton agrees with Sheff
Kenny Lofton: Sheffield Is Right About Torre - Sports Blog - The FanHouse

"All I can say is, Sheffield knows what he's talking about," Lofton told The Associated Press when asked to respond to Sheffield's comments about Torre. "That's all I'm going to say."

Lofton backing Sheffield makes his NY experience look pretty clear. Here's another article:
