Right. And Willis is coming back. So someone else needs to go.

We're talking in circles here.

I apologize. I meant Cruceta instead of Porcelo earlier in the thread.

To solve this problem; waive or trade Sheff. He is done. Move Guillen to DH, Inge to third and run down the championship.

I am so sick and tired of Sheff popping out to the shortstop I could scream. He lacks the ability to fill multiple roles so he needs to go.

Brandon is a gold glove 3rd basement and his hitting has improved. He can back up Pudge at catcher for the season.

Guillen is a switch hitter so he he can DH against right and left handers. He can also back up Inge at third when he needs to catch.

Santiago backs up the other infield positions, Raburn and Thames back up the outfield positions.

Would there be a reason to not carry 6 starting pitchers and go with a 6 man rotation until somebody really falters?

This is a great problem to have.

Interesting idea but Sheff is one of Leyland's favorites. Leyland will keep batting him 3rd in May and see if he can work out his swing.

It would be nice if Shef just retired. This would solve the issue.

Re: TIGERS 08 SEASON THREAD

Just last year the Tigers were complaining about how their lineup lost its pop when Shef was out. I think they are interesting in giving him every opportunity to get it together this year b/c of that potential upside.

How much $ is he making this year? I'm guessing he is absolutely impossible to trade and we probably won't waive a guy making that much who can still walk to the plate.

An in-between strategy would be to send someone back to the minors while we try to figure out the long-term solution (waiving Shef, trading someone else, etc.). Maybe that buys us enough time to fully evaluate Sheffield or negotiate a real trade. It would be tough sending Galarraga back while he has the momentum, but if he's the real deal, then he'll be good in a month when we bring him back up.

So, the question would be, who besides Galarraga has minor league options left?

Re: TIGERS 08 SEASON THREAD

If sheff retired today.... we would replace him with a position player not a pitcher... so we still need to send a pitcher out of the equation folks...

willis needs to stay down there working till he proves he's ready to add to us, not just take a spot in the rotation.

I think you are right. Willis was stinking it up early so let him make a "FEW" rehab starts to get his stuff together before we bring him back up.

To make things worse; what happens when Rodney and Zumaya are ready?

Especially if the other guys in the bully are pitching well.

I'm not sure Rodney is ever gonna be ready. Actually, both of these guys are head cases. I would be shocked if Zumaya returns to his former, flame-throwing self. I love Rodney's change-up though.

Tigers will have some tough decisions to make. Good thing Dombrowski has this forum to refer to.

No. We have an abundance of pitchers.
