ESPN - Tigers designate Jacque Jones; Sheffield goes to left field - MLB

Shef is moving to left field. This was Sheffield's request. Jacque Jones has been designated for assignment.

Who is running this team anyway?

Why not bring Clete Thomas back instead of a new kid? Wasn't Thomas doing well for us?

Re: TIGERS 08 SEASON THREAD

It took me two years, but I am finally at the conclusion thjat one of three people has lost their mind: Dombrowski, Leyland, Sheffield.

. Cut Jones. OK, who cares.4 weeks of nothing and he throws like my sister. We gave up Infante for that? I cant believe how wrong I was about that trade. He had to have been on jice in his Twins day.

BUT SHEFFIELD in LEFT!!!????
How can a guy with bad shoulders THROW the ball?

This team is out of whack.

Terrible defense
Poor starting pitching
Awful with two-out hitting
Poor managing

Only a Stanley Cup or NBA title can get through this summer.........

Thomas was doing great...hitting, running and fielding. I don't know why they're not bringing him back.

Sheffield to LF makes absolutely NO sense.

Maybe Sheffield to LF is better than Maggs in RF? Or maybe it's a move to get his mind more in the game?

Re: TIGERS 08 SEASON THREAD

Great win by the Tigers tonight.

The hero was Polanco. He got 4 hits in his first 4 at bats. Got out the 5th time. But in the bottom of the 9th, delivered the game winning hit for his 5th of the night off of Papplebon.

All in, we had 18 hits against some pretty good pitching.

We had a 4 run lead early and let it slip away. Then we built up another 4 run lead only to let it slip away again. Finally, Boston took the lead in the 8th and we were down 1 in the bottom of the 9th. Matt Joyce, who got his first major league hit earlier in the game, was able to outrun a check swing infield hit to start the rally in the 9th.

Sheff was looking good tonight too.

I wouldn't call it a great win. Bullpen couldn't hold the lead. It was a necessary win and a great offensive performance, but they'll have to do better than that to get into the playoffs. Maybe Sheffield is finally waking up. Now we need to get Cabrera going consistently.

Re: TIGERS 08 SEASON THREAD

I will start by saying I am an Inge fan. Does anyone else think that he could have gotten to that slow roller between third and short in the eighth inning that scored the tying run? Seemed like it would have been a routine play for him.

I try not to do it but I find myself watching the games and seeing plays that Inge could have made at third if he were there.
