Pistonsforum.com Values

Community
We seek a community of fans to provide a welcoming environment for discussion of the Detroit Pistons and other subjects. We seek to enable members to contribute original content, to become part of the staffing structure of the forum, or to otherwise grow within our community.

Learning and Understanding
We are here to express our opinions, to blow off steam, etc. But, we are also here to learn and to teach where we are able. We value different and diverging points of view and what they can teach us about the topics being discussed and about ourselves.

Respect
We define respect in two ways. Members have a responsibility to be respectful to each other, though no one posting here should expect that their posts will go unchallenged. What they can demand from their fellows is that challenges will be based on informed opinion and will not be personal in nature. To the subjects we discuss members have a responsibility to be as informed as possible before they post - to do their homework.

Passion
We care about the Pistons and about basketball. We are fans. We prefer members who are willing to let their emotions show through, who wear their hearts on their sleeves. If we are honest with each other and really express what is on our minds, we succeed.

Accessibility
Our community is for fans of all levels age 13 or older. All we require is respect and passion for the game and for the forum.

Pistonsforum.com General Rules

1. We do not tolerate personal attacks on members or posters that continually harass other members. Arguing, debating, and heated discussion are par for the course, but always remember to attack the post and not the poster.

2. The members at Pistonsforum.com reflect the fanbase of the Detroit Pistons. We come in all ages, all genders, all races, creeds, and colors, as well as from many countries around the world. Please respect our diversity and think before you post.

3. We do not tolerate racist or sexist comments, posts, links, or images from any member. Please do not post any messages that are profane, obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, discriminatory or that otherwise violate any local or international laws. This includes your posts, signature, avatar, and profile. We reserve the right to remove offensive content without notice or consultation.

4. Neither do we tolerate offensive language. A "bad word" replacement system is in place. Do not attempt to circumvent it by using alternate spellings. While the system is by no means intelligent or foolproof, the reduction of profanity enables this community to present a positive image and to provide a welcoming environment for all our members.

Pistonsforum.com General Etiquette

1. The forums are divided by content area and members should make every effort to post new threads only in the appropriate forum. This makes the foums much more readable for everyone.

2. All content from other sites including news services should be LINKED rather than copied. You may use a short section of the content, no more than two paragraphs, or write your own synopsis of the piece you are linking to. Under no circumstance should paid or subscriber content (e.g., ESPN Insider) be posted.

We reserve the right to edit or delete "outside" content postings without consultation. If you are unsure how to post external content, please ask a staff member.

3. Advertising in signatures, posts, Private Messages, through forum email or through the use of avatars or posted images is prohibited. This includes advertising websites, other forums or blogs regardless of whether they are free services or not. Those interested in cross-promotion of their website or service with Pistonsforum.com should seek approval by contacting us here.

4. Discussion of any illegal activities, such as software or music piracy or other intellectual property violations are not allowed.

6. PistonsForum.com is an English language forum. All posts should be in the English language, the only exceptions being foreign articles or quotes, which whenever possible should be translated. Non-English communication between members can be conducted via the Private Message system. That said, we encourage posters who do not have English as their first language to participate. Just do your best and don’t worry about it. We can all benefit from different points of view.
