Unsigned Players the Pistons hold rights to
Name Minimum Salary to sign in 07/08 Years in NBA/Draft Position
Alex Acker $886,517 Drafted #60 2005, 1 year vet
Cheikh Samb $427,163 Trade with Lakers, Drafted #51 2006
Sammy Mejia $427,163 Drafted #57 2007

Contract Notes:

Cheikh Samb & Sammy Mejia can be signed to a one or two year contract at the league minimum salary. Based on past signings, Detroit would likely offer the second year as a team option if the contract was for more than one season.

Alex Acker - minimum contract to sign is a one year veteran minimum ($711,517) plus $175,000 as it is a qualifying offer. At the time of this writing, Detroit still had not used it's 2007/8 Mid-Level Exception and can sign Acker for significantly more than the minimum. It is not known however if Detroit has tendered a qualifying offer to Acker to make him a RFA (restricted free agent) for the 2007/8 season.

Options

  • Jason Maxiell has an option for his 4th year which is at the team's discretion. This option must be taken or declined by October 1, 2007.
  • Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo's team options for year 3 of their rookie contracts must be taken or declined by October 1, 2008. Their 4th year options must be taken or declined by October 1, 2009.

The Bi-Annual Exception is not available this year, as it was used in 2006/7 on Flip Murray.

Unsigned Players the Pistons hold rights to
Name Minimum Salary to sign in 06/07 Years in NBA/Draft Position
Alex Acker $839,209 Drafted #60 2005, 1 year vet
Cheick Samb $412,718 Trade with Lakers, Drafted #51 2006

Contract Notes:

Chris Webber - signed mid-season as a free agent after being waived by Philadelphia. He signed a minimum contract with Detroit (the only type of contract Detroit could offer being over the cap). The minimum for a 10+ year veteran during the 2006/7 season is $1,178,348. He is listed at $744,551 as this is the minimum amount to sign a 2nd year veteran. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NBA pays the difference, so that teams are not discouraged from signing older veterans. Thus, Detroit pays $744,551, and the NBA pays $433,797 for a total of $1,178,348. Webber's actual contract is pro-rated for the number of days left in the season when he signed with Detroit (not shown here).

Alex Acker - minimum contract to sign is a one year veteran minimum ($664,209) plus $175,000 as it is a qualifying offer. Detroit tendered the offer to keep Acker's rights while he plays in Greece with Olympiacos Piraeus. Acker has until March 1st 2007 to accept the offer and play next season under it's terms or become a free agent. If Detroit provides another qualifying offer, Acker will be a restricted free agent, allowing Detroit under certain conditions, to match any NBA offer sheets he receives. Reports indicate that Acker signed a two-year deal with Olympiacos Piraeus with the second season being a player option.

Options - Chauncey Billups, Ronald Dupree, Ronald Murray, Antonio McDyess and Will Blalock all have options that must be exercised by the player or team by July 1st 2007.
